First National Father's Day Rally A Tremendous Success

Churches across the country from Massachusetts to Mississippi, New York, Kentucky, Washington, DC, Los Angeles, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and other locations joined hands in prayer against prostate cancer on Father's Day.

In a tremendous response to PHEN's "First Annual Father's Day Rally Against Prostate Cancer" churches stepped up to participate. During regular services churches recognized prostate cancer survivors, their loved ones and the loved ones of those that had been victims of the disease and offered a special prayer. A number of churches expanded their services to include speakers and other activities around prostate cancer, and some churches had events on Saturday and Sunday. PHEN provided each church with educational materials that was distributed during worship service.

PHEN will continue to work with its church partners throughout the year to increase awareness and knowledge about prostate health as part of its "Rally Against Prostate Cancer." A session at PHEN's "Sixth Annual African American Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit" will focus on strategies and plans for working with churches for ongoing educational outreach to their members and communities. This session will be held on September 17th at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.
