PHEN Summit Program - Friday September 26th

Congressional Black Caucus Issue Forum

AFRICAN AMERICAN PROSTATE CANCER DISPARITY SUMMIT

Sponsor: U.S. Congressman Gregory Meeks (D-NY)

Friday, September 26th: 9am to 12 noon

Washington Convention Center - Room 156

Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer among men. African American men die at a rate 2.4 times (140%) higher than all others from this disease; an epidemic condition which is devastating many families. Progress in the war on prostate cancer is hampered by inadequate funding for education, awareness and research, confusion over screening guidelines, impediments to approval of new treatments and a myriad of other issues. This session of the 4th annual PHEN ?African American Prostate Cancer Disparity Summit? will use a Town Hall Meeting format to outline an "action blueprint" to address this crisis. This blueprint will be presented to the incoming presidential administration and to congress. Those most impacted by prostate cancer and related national policies; survivors and their family members, those working at the grassroots level, advocacy organizations, research institutions, treatment providers, and others are invited to participate and make their voices heard in shaping this blueprint
