AME Church Bishops Partner With PHEN On Prostate Cancer Education
Bishop Harry Seawright, the AME church district 9 prelate (Alabama) and the incoming president of the AME Council of Bishops, joined PHEN to host an educational workshop and the Daddy's Boys play in Birmingham, Alabama on May 18th. Bishop Seawright was an active participant in the workshop which was held prior to the play and he addressed the audience following the conclusion of the play. He spoke about how much he enjoyed the play and the importance of increasing prostate health knowledge and his commitment towards this goal.
Bishop Adam Richardson, AME Church district 11 prelate (Florida and Bahamas), has worked closely with PHEN for many years starting when he was the prelate for district 2. Bishop Richardson directed the district 11 Sons of Allen (SOA) to move forward to identify prostate health ambassadors within their churches to interface with PHEN with the mission to have every church in the district to partner with PHEN, register yearly, to participate in the PHEN Father’s Day Rally, provide PHEN prostate cancer materials to congregations during the month of September which is prostate cancer month. PHEN conducted an educational workshop at the SOA annual retreat in Tampa, FL on May 17th which kicked this effort off.
The workshop included a presentation by a medical specialist from the Moffit Cancer Center, a prostate cancer survivor panel discussion, and PSA testing.
