Omega Psi Phi and PHEN Join Forces to Conduct 5k Run/Walk-Saturday July 30th, 2011
The Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., celebrating its 100th anniversary in Washington DC, will join forces with the Prostate Health Education Network, Inc. (PHEN) to conduct a 5k (3.1 miles) run/walk event as a part of their centennial celebration on Saturday, July 30, 2011 on the campus of Howard University, Washington DC, from 8:00 am ? 10:00 am.
This event will be one of the fraternity?s signature health related events during the week long celebration. Additionally, a health fair will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center that is free and open to the public from July 27-30, 2011.
The run/walk event has three major objectives:
(1) To raise health awareness of prostate cancer specifically among African American men.
(2) To raise funds for the Prostate Health Education Network to continue promoting education and what can be done to prevent this illness
(3) To continue the tradition of community service that Omega has provided for 100 years.
Howard University Hospital, in conjunction with local physicians and medical personnel, will conduct on-site, free health screens that will be open to the public during the course of the event.
Entry fee for participation in the run/walk is $25.00 but the health screens are free and open to the public.
There will also be a one (1) mile fun walk for seniors and kids.
