PHEN Network Member Dr. Artie Shelton Participates in AUA Conference
PHEN Network Member Dr. Artie Shelton participated on a panel discussion at the American Urological Association's 12th Annual Joint Advocacy Conference in Washington, DC on March 6th. Dr. Shelton presented on the U. S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) and Access to PSA panel along with Dr. John Lynch (prostate cancer survivor and Chair of AUA’s Patient Education Council) and Kristi Thompson (Legislative Assistant to Marsha Blackburn). Dr. Shelton addressed the patient perspective of why it is vital to have transparency in the recommendation process and the significance of shared decision making.
AUA's Jessica N. Bateman, Patient and Research Advocacy Manager, extended AUA's appreciation to Dr. Shelton with these words: "Many thanks for participating in our advocacy conference. Your insight tremendously enhanced our USPSTF panel and brought great perspective to our messaging regarding the importance of shared decision making. The panel created a lot of momentum for our physicians to go to Capitol Hill and discuss the importance of preserving PSA testing and advocating to their members of Congress to support H.R. 539 (the USPSTF Transparency and Accountability Act of 2017). We look forward to continuing our relationship with PHEN and working closely with advocates such as yourself to strengthen our legislative efforts."
