Walter Burke is the chair of a prostate cancer support group called PSA (Positively Seeking Anwers). PSA is an organization which encourages men to talk about personal issues regarding health, the importance of doctor visits as well as knowing their PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen)levels. This support group meets at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In September 2007, Burke had a life-changing experience. He learned he had prostate cancer after attending a free screening sponsored by the 100 Black Men of Greater Charlotte and the Brotherhood of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Burke, who had practiced optometry for 22 years in New Jersey, had moved to the Charlotte area with his wife in 2004. He is the father of four grown children and has a granddaughter. He enjoys golf, travel and classic jazz.
