Dr. Orio is the Vice Chair and Medical Director of Network Operations and Director of Genitourinary Brachytherapy in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, a Senior Physician at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and an Assistant Professor of Radiation Oncology at Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Orio completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Washington and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Seattle Cancer Care Alliance) and after graduation held numerous leadership positions that include the Assistant Chiefship of Radiation Oncology at one of the United States’ largest military hospitals prior to returning to Boston, Massachusetts in 2010 to join the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center.
Dr. Orio’s area of excellence is the clinical expertise and innovation of genitourinary radiation oncology. He continues to explore innovations in the field of brachytherapy and leads a thriving prostate brachytherapy program, which attracts physicians from around the world to observe and learn. Dr. Orio has successfully established three prostate brachytherapy programs for DF/BWCC which utilize advanced treatment planning and radioactive isotope delivery systems providing high quality outcomes with decreased side effects.
Dr. Orio holds several leadership positions that include the Chair of the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) Code Development and Code Valuation Committee and is ASTRO’s appointed advisor to the American Medical Society (AMA) RVS Update (RUC) Committee and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). He is currently the President of the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS) and Chair of the ABS Socioeconomic Committee.
